Introduction
- Sufi Suhno was compiled by Dada Rupchand Kripalani as he felt that such pearls of wisdom should be available to all the disciples who had come to know Sain Nasir Faqir Jalalani over the years. Rupchand had come into contact with the great master, when he was a mere boy, when his father took him to the “thalla” or the place where Sainji lived and discoursed. The intense devotion that the meeting aroused in Rupchand continued all his life and in fact got stronger with years.
- When the followers of Sainji couldn’t pay their respects personally, they would often write to Sainji. After the partition of the country, the Hindu disciples from India continued to write to Sainji and preserved the letters that came in response to theirs. In his later life, Rupchand once asked Sainji if he could have His permission to collect all the letters from the disciples and compiled them in a book form. Sainji blessed him in his venture. Rupchand felt that the various letters written to a number of followers would make a good basis from where the younger people could gain the knowledge, which they had missed by not being in the presence of Sainji. Hence he started the mammoth task of requesting all his co-disciples for their treasure, which they willingly parted with. From the time Rupchand retired, he started spending as much time as possible to study and collate the letters, and with the help of his wife, Sushila, he succeeded in getting the Sufi Suhno published.
- As time went by Rupchand got involved in reading and explaining these letters to the followers of Sainji, he realized that perhaps putting the subject matter under different headings would present the meaning more thoroughly, so he started writing Sufi Suhno 2 which is now available for all the readers here. Rupchand and Sushila made an excellent team, as his hand had lost the strength to write and she was not only his advisor but his scribe too. They really loved doing this together and they will be very proud and happy if by our Sanji’s grace we manage to learn some of the lessons that have been passed on to us.
